I loved the classes at the College and the teachers were brilliant – they were very friendly and respectful. I’m still in touch with them and I really like going to talk to them.

All of the tutors at the College are very enthusiastic and motivated so they try to teach us as much as they can. They try to make us think by ourselves and they don't inject knowledge in our head. They let us be creative.

Pre-arrival support

Student support begins before you even arrive. Friendly staff will be available to walk you through the process of applying for a visa, and to answer any questions you may have. You’ll also receive a pre-arrival pack filled with useful information about your future studies and life in the UK.

At the airport

From the moment you get off the plane in the UK, everything will be done to make you feel welcome, safe and happy. The Student Support team can arrange for you to be picked up from the airport and taken to your accommodation, and the staff will make sure you have everything you need.

Once you have accepted your offer to study with us, you can book your airport transfers by filling in the form in the pre-arrival area.

Welcome Week

Welcome Week will give you an opportunity to meet your teachers, fellow students and the Pathway College staff before your classes start. The Student Support team will take you on a tour of the Pathway College and University facilities, and will be on hand to help you with everything from registering with a doctor to finding your local supermarket.

Social activities

The Pathway College staff will organise numerous events, trips and activities for you to enjoy. From fun-filled nights out in York to visits to the many nearby historic sites and landmarks, the social activities on offer will give you plenty of chances to make new friends.

Accommodation

The stylish, modern accommodation available to students is safe, fully equipped with modern conveniences, and located right on the University campus. You’ll be able to experience campus life from day one, and the city of York will be just a short distance away. Find out more about our excellent residences on the accommodation page.

Ben Flowerdew

Subject Area Lead, Science and Engineering

As Subject Area Lead for Science and Engineering, I keep an eye on all of the students within the Science Pathways and in Maths classes. I monitor the results of tests and try to help students achieve their goals in whatever way I can.  I deliver much of the chemistry teaching and I enjoy explaining how the subject works. I get real pleasure from the way students' faces light up when they understand a difficult point.  I am still fascinated by the subject of chemistry and I love passing on my enthusiasm.  Every year I look forward to welcoming the new group of students starting with the University of York International Pathway College.

Ben studied Chemistry with Bio-organic Chemistry at Birmingham University (UK), and Organic Chemistry at Liverpool University (UK)
