Transfer to complete a bachelor’s degree

You can transfer into Year 2 or 3 of an Arizona State University bachelor’s degree if you have already studied at another university or college. Your existing undergraduate credit is evaluated for acceptance by ASU, and you will find out how many credits you can transfer with your offer of a place. When you complete a bachelor’s degree and graduate, your degree is awarded by ASU. Transfer admission is possible to most majors.

Note: Not all credits may transfer. The minimum number of credits you need for transfer admission is 24 and the maximum is 64.

ASU-USA Pathways

This program lets you start undergraduate studies at ASU while you raise your English proficiency and academic grades. You’ll take a combination of English language and academic courses, and receive extra support to prepare you for degree-level study in the USA. By successfully completing ASU-USA Pathways, you will earn transferable credits and are guaranteed admission to selected ASU majors:

Successfully complete a pathway and you are guaranteed progression to these bachelor’s degrees taught on ASU’s West or Downtown Phoenix campus. However, students can transition into any ASU undergraduate program if they achieve the major-specific requirements.

Intensive English Program (IEP)

With IEP, you can study at ASU while you raise your English level to meet the requirements of your conditional admission to:

  • ASU-USA Pathways
  • All bachelor’s degrees (except journalism and nursing) – Year 1 or transfer admission

There are 6 Intensive English Program levels, from basic to advanced, each lasting 8 weeks. When you pass the required level, you can progress to an ASU undergraduate degree or Pathways program without needing to submit a TOEFL score.

International Graduate Preparation Program (IGPP)

With IGPP, you can study at ASU for 10 weeks while you strengthen your English proficiency to meet the requirements of your conditional admission to:

  • Master’s degrees in W. P. Carey School of Business (except MBAs)
  • Master of Global Management in Thunderbird School
  • Master’s degrees in Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (includes computing and technology)

When you pass IGPP, you can progress to your ASU master’s degree.

What are the entry requirements?

Please note: the information below shows general requirements for ASU admission and exceptions for some popular programs. Other degrees may have higher or extra requirements. Our education advisors can also provide details specific to your chosen major or degree.

Bachelor’s degree entry requirements:

    Most undergraduate majors

    For most bachelor’s degrees, applicants need:

    • GPA 3.00 in high school studies OR top 25% of high school graduating class

    Degrees with higher minimum grades:

    • Bachelor of Science majors in W. P. Carey School of Business – GPA 3.60 OR top 8% of high school class OR SAT/ACT exam
    • BSN Nursing – GPA 3.30 OR graduate in the top 25% of high school class
  • English language

    For international students affected by testing centers closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Arizona State University has temporarily approved the use of the Duolingo English test (DET). More information.

    • TOEFL/KiBT 61 / IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5) / PTE 53 / DET 95 / KIE Advanced level

    BSN Nursing

    • SAT score 1170 or ACT score 24 or graduated in top 25% of high school (in addition to GPA 3.30)

    Journalism majors

    • SAT score 1120 or ACT score 22 (in addition to GPA 3.00)

    Bachelor’s degrees in School of Sustainability

    • SAT score 1120 or ACT score 22 or graduated in top 25% of high school (if GPA in core competencies is below 3.0)

Requirements to transfer into a bachelor’s degree:

    PLEASE NOTE: “Admission with deficiency” may be offered to school of business (non-MBA), global management, or schools of engineering applicants who have at least TOEFL 80 but require further development in their English language, for instance, low scores in the GRE writing section. After completing the International Graduate Preparation Program with 80% or higher average, students progress to their degree.

  • Admission tests and other requirements

    GMAT or GRE score required by many programs:

    Entry to 3-semester pathway program: completion of high school with GPA 2.50 or top 35% of high school class
    Entry to 1-semester pathway program: completion of high school with GPA 2.75 and no mathematics competency deficiencies

    – from 1-semester pathway: GPA 2.75 in credit courses, with no grades below a C
    – from 3-semester pathway: GPA 2.50 in credit courses, with no grades below a C

    Progression to BA degrees in W. P. Carey School of Business:
